REHAB IN MOTION TREATS SUCCESSFUL OLYMPIC ATHLETE!
As part of their training on Mt. Washington, our Courtenay Clinic provided physiotherapy and massage therapy services to the Australian Cross Ski Team! Ben Chatterson, one of our physios in Courtenay and Travis Creegan, our Massage Therapist, treated 3 athletes. Pictured here is Scott Kneller. Kneller eventually claimed seventh place in the newest event on the winter Olympic program, to extend the Australian team's excellent record at Cypress Mountain, the venue for freestyle skiing and snowboarding.

MRIs and Surgery for Low Back Pain
MRI Availability Appears to Increase Low Back Surgery

* Explain that patients living in areas with the highest concentrations of MRI machines were more likely to have an MRI if they complained of lower back pain, and were also more likely to have lower back surgery.

* Note that the increase in surgery is cause for concern among researchers, since its efficacy has not been proven in the literature.

Patients with low back pain are more likely to have surgery if they live in an area with more magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, researchers say.

COURTENAY CLINIC HOSTS ELITE ATHLETES!
November 20th and 21st will be the days we are hosting some of Vancouver Island's best athletes to complete Max VO2 and Lactate Level testing. Using either a running or biking protocol, athletes will determine their optimal training "zones" by having blood and oxygen samples taken throughout a graded exercise test. Olympic Torch in Town!
An exciting time for Campbell River and Courtenay! The Olympic flame will be coming through on Sunday November 1st and Monday the 2nd. The flame will be in Courtenay on Sunday around 4pm and again in Campbell River around 4:15 pm. On Monday, our Willow Point Clinic will be in the front row for the passing of the flame. Staff and clients will be dressed in Olympic uniforms with their faces painted. Very, very crazy but a good time!

Patients Improve with Manual Therapy
Myth: Most patients with neck pain do not require nor should be provided with manual therapy, as they will improve just the same. On the contrary, the Cochrane Review Board concludes that there is evidence to support mobilizations/manual therapy plus exercise in the management of sub-acute/chronic neck pain with or without headache.
